GREENVILLE – The 36th Annual Annie Oakley Classic baseball tournament starts today, Friday, July 7 th with a 6:30 pm starting time at Greenville’s Sater Hights Ball Park.
The three day weekend tournament includes 8U, 9U, 10U, 12U and 14U divisions under the direction of the Greenville Citizens Baseball League (GCBL) headed up my GCBL Commissioner Ron Kerg with a full slate of teams.
“We have 40 teams so we are full,” said Kerg. “Winner’s pork chops as usual. Last tournament of the year so it’s going to be a good weekend to get out and enjoy youth baseball.”
GCBL is a community organization promoting youth baseball opportunities for players ranging from age 3 thru junior high.
The success of the organization is due to the support of the many volunteers, who dedicate countless hours to the development and organization of the programs, maintenance and upkeep of the Sater Park facility as well as coaching, running the concession stands and providing support to the teams, players and families.
“I want to invite everybody out,” Kerg stated. “I want to thank Keith Heidrich for doing such a great job with the tournament as the tournament director and I would also like to thank Adam Eberwein for doing a great job with getting the diamonds ready to go. W
“We have a great staff, a great board that has always worked hard and it has been a wonderful experience,” he added. “It’s always hard work down here and it’s always a good time.”
