GREENVILLE—The Darke County Agricultural Society Board of Directors met on Wednesday evening to discuss new cameras, Junior Fairboard, and Corporate sponsors. All Board members were present.

While taking comments from the public, the board heard from Ms. Evans from the horseman’s barn, who had a concern about the barns becoming a place for people to dump cats.

“It’s getting overwhelming,” Evans said. “Is there anything we can do?”

Laura Ahrens suggested getting more cameras around in the area. Ahrens stated that with the cameras, they could get evidence to give to the police.

A rough quote Ahrens got was $500 – $600 a camera. A motion from Dave Singer was seconded by Craig Bowman to get four new cameras. The motion passed with only one no from James Zumbrink.

Next, the board heard from Junior Fairboard member Paige Garrett. Garrett was selected for the Dean’s Charity Steer Show at the state fair. All the money raised at this event goes to the Ronald McDonald Houses of Central Ohio.

Garrett is the first person from Darke County to be selected for this event.

The board plans on coming up with a way to make a donation to support Garrett.

The board then heard the Junior Fairboard report from Jr. Fair President Jayden Hicks.

Hicks discussed the Heart of Darke show that will be on Monday at 3 pm in the goat arena during the fair for those with disabilities. The Jr. Fairboard is very excited about it.

Hicks also mentioned the Fair Pageant coming up. The pageant will be held at Radiant Lighthouse on July 11, 2023, at 7 pm.

“We are getting pretty excited about that,” Hicks said. “I have a few surprising things that they didn’t have last year with some past royalty. So that will be pretty fun to display for you guys.”

The board then heard from Tim Reck regarding corporate sponsors. This would allow sponsors to give donations to put up advertisement signs on horse barns. The money would go to fixing equipment

A motion to table this topic for the next meeting failed.

A motion was then made by Craig Bowman and seconded by Curtis Yount to allow Reck to pursue gaining sponsors and getting options for the sponsorships.

This motion passed with a no from James Zumbrink and a no from Greg Pearson.
