GREENVILLE – Monday, November 11, 2024 is Veterans Day. A Veterans Day Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m., with a Parade immediately following.
The City of Greenville is happy to announce that the American Legion Post 140 will host a Veterans Day Ceremony in front of the Court House at 11:00 a.m., following the ringing of the church bells. Mayor Jeff Whitaker will give the opening remarks. The ceremony will include an Invocation, Flag Raising, National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, Wreath-Laying, Gun Salute, Taps, and Benediction. It will host guest speaker Frank LaRose, Ohio Secretary of State.
Frank LaRose became Ohio’s 51st Secretary of State on January 14, 2019, bringing to the office years of hard-earned leadership skills and public service developed as a U.S. Army Reservist, State Senator, U.S. Army Special Forces Green Beret, and Eagle Scout.
Growing up in Summit County, Ohio, LaRose worked on the family farm and graduated from Copley High School. He subsequently enlisted in the United States Army in 1998, serving in the 101st Airborne Division and later in the U.S. Special Forces as a Green Beret. LaRose received the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq.
LaRose graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in consumer affairs and a minor in business administration.
“We want to invite everybody November 11th at 11 a.m. sharp to the Veterans Day Parade honoring all our county veterans,” said Greenville Mayor Jeff Whitaker. “We are very pleased to have a well-decorated veteran with a Bronze Star in Secretary of State Frank LaRose coming off a very busy week this week. He’s coming to Greenville to serve as our speaker. We have the Greenville Marching Band, the Greenville NJROTC, floats, and a great program.”
The 2024 Veterans Day Parade, hosted by Darke County Veterans Services, will immediately follow the ceremony. It will make its way down Broadway through the shopping district. These activities honor all our Veterans with a Patriotic theme.
“We invite everyone to come and enjoy the parade and honor our Veterans who served our country,” said Darke County Veterans Services Director/CVSO Tom Pitman
The American Legion Post 140, located at 325 N Ohio St, Greenville, will host a bean soup luncheon and invite the public to attend. The luncheon will be held immediately after the Parade until 2:00 p.m. or until supplies are depleted.
The Darke County Veterans Services will provide American Flags which will be handed out by the Fort GreeneVille Daughters of the American Revolution before the ceremony.
Please call Darke County Veterans Services at 937-548-5305 should you have any questions about the Ceremony or Parade.
