VERSAILLES – The Versailles Lady Tigers won the nightcap of its First Annual Prosperity Promotions Tiger Classic by defeating the Bellefontaine Lady Chieftains 53-31 in non-conference play.

“You have to be able to come in and be ready to fight every single day and be ready to improve on your weaknesses,” said Versailles coach, Tracy White. “Our girls have bought into that especially the last couple of weeks.”

Versailles took a 9-5 lead after one-quarter of play led by Sarah Stammen’s seven points including a 3-pointer while Bellefontaine’s points came at the free throw line with the Lady Chieftains going 5-6 at the charity stripe.
“We played hard and it’s one of those things where I felt like we were slow to start,” White noted. “Sarah was that spark to get us going. She played from the beginning to the end.”

Taylor Wagner led the Lady Tigers with seven second-quarter points and Jenna Dirksen canned the first two of her five 3-pointers on the night with Versailles taking the period by a double-digit 16-6 score sending the teams to the break with Versailles leading 25-11.

Dirksen drilled her third and fourth triples of the game to lead Versailles with six third-quarter points. The Lady Tigers outscored the visiting Lady Chieftains 15-10 giving the home team a 40-21 advantage after three periods of action.

“Jenna played so well – catch and shoot, she’s not thinking about it, she’s just shooting the ball,” said Coach White. “I think she was 5-5 from the 3-point line and then when they adjusted, she got the ball to the rim and got to the free-throw line.”
Versailles took the final period 13-10 with the bench getting playing time on the court to earn the 22-point win over the Logan County team.
Dirksen led Versailles and all scorers with an impressive 19 points coming by way of a perfect 5-5 from beyond the arc and 4-4 at the free throw line while being named MVP of the game.
