VERSAILLES – Versailles went to 3-0 on the season with a hard-fought 17-7 victory over Delphos St. John’s Friday night.
The Tigers jumped out to a 10-0 lead before surrendering their first season points with 1.7 seconds left in the first half. The teams battled to a scoreless first quarter before Versailles would get on the board in the second quarter with a Leland Bolin field goal.
Ross Francis owned the night for Versailles, scoring both touchdowns. Francis got the ball every play on the Tigers’ first touchdown, going 41 yards on four plays for a 10-0 lead.
The Tigers would have a slim 10-7 lead going into the fourth quarter when Francis would score on a 15-yard run to put Versailles up 10 with less than 10 minutes left in the game.
Francis had 158 yards on the night. Versailles ran the ball 51 times for 251 yards. The Tigers Ethan Wilker threw for 35 yards on the night.
“It was a hard-fought contest; two teams are playing really hard tonight.” Coach Ryan Jones said, “I thought our defense played really well all night.”
The Tigers held the Blue Jays to 33 yards rushing and 114 yards passing.
