Troy City Schools to hold spelling bee this week

TROY—Eleven of the top spellers in the city will compete Thursday at the Troy City Spelling Bee. The spelling bee will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 in the Troy High School auditorium.

The competitors will include: Oham Patel (Concord Elementary School, fifth grade), Daniel Fuller (Cookson Elementary School, fourth grade), Sawyer Hill (Forest Elementary School, fifth grade), Xavier Chavis (Heywood Elementary School, fifth grade), Colin Casey (Hook Elementary School, fourth grade), Tanmayee Tallam (Van Cleve Sixth Grade Building), Malia Shaw (Troy Junior High School, eighth grade), Charlie Byrer (Troy Christian Elementary School, sixth grade), Grant Borton (Troy Christian Junior High School, eighth grade), Veronica Pannapara (St. Patrick School, eighth grade) and Noah Wahl (The Miami Montessori School, eighth grade).

The emcee for the event will be City of Troy Mayor Emeritus Michael Beamish and the pronouncer will be Troy City Schools Superintendent Chris Piper. The judges for the event will be: John Gibbons (retired/Hook Elementary School), Nancy Johnson (retired/Cookson Elementary School), Katy Miller (Assistant Director, Troy-Miami County Public Library), Beth Landfair (Troy Christian Elementary School) and Andrea Weigand (The Miami Montessori School).

The event will be recorded and broadcast at a later date on the Troy City Schools YouTube channel.
