DARKE COUNTY – According to the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA), over 930,000 chickens have tested positive for High Path Avian Influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in Darke County.
The National Veterinary Services Laboratory tests of the birds came back positive late last week and the ODA’s procedure is to quarantine the impacted facility and to kill the birds to prevent the disease from spreading.
High Path Avian Influenza spreads quickly and can be fatal to flocks and devastating to poultry owners. The ODA is urging poultry owners to intensify biosecurity, use best management practices and report any symptoms immediately here.
