CELINA— Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports that his office is investigating the illegal conveyance of drugs into the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility.

David M Wheeler, 32, of St. Mary’s, was booked in to the jail on Oct. 30 at 2:16 a.m., on an OVI (Operating a Motor Vehicle Impaired) charge, arrested by officers of the Celina Police Department. Prior to entering the secured booking area of the facility, an unknown white pill was located on Wheeler. This was taken as evidence by the arresting Celina Police Officer.

Continuing on through the booking process, as Mercer County Corrections Deputies were inventorying Wheeler’s personal property, they located a rolled up dollar bill, which contained a white powdery substance inside.

The suspected drugs were collected as evidence. A preliminary test of the white substance was conducted and the results showed presumptive positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted and Wheeler is being held on an additional charge of Illegal Conveyance of Drugs of Abuse into a Detention Facility, a felony of the third degree. The report will be turned over to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.
