Lady Wave tennis faces tough loss at Tipp

TIPP CITY – In a challenging match against the Tipp City Red Devils of Tippecanoe High School, the Lady Wave Tennis Team fought hard but ultimately fell short today, losing 1-4 in the overall match results.

First Singles: Riley Capasso, a sophomore, faced off against Tipp City’s Eleanor Spangler, also a sophomore. Capasso faced a strong opponent and failed to gain momentum in the match, leading to a 0-6, 0-6 loss to Spangler.

Second Singles: Junior Maddie Lance went up against Bri Kovaleski, a fellow junior from Tippecanoe. Lance put up a determined effort but was outmatched by Kovaleski’s consistent play, resulting in a 0-6, 1-6 defeat.

Third Singles: Sienna Gilman, a sophomore, took on Jillian Schroeder, a freshman. Despite putting up a fight, Gilman was defeated 1-6, 0-6 by Schroeder.

First Doubles: The Lady Wave found success in the first doubles match. Senior Haylee Shuttleworth and sophomore Meadow Murphy teamed up to take on Eve McCormick, a junior, and Sydney LaBreck, a freshman. After losing the first set 1-6, Shuttleworth and Murphy staged a dramatic comeback, winning the next two sets 7-5, 7-5, and securing the only victory of the day for the Lady Wave.

Second Doubles: Senior Charlie Pope and sophomore Kirsten Horn faced off against Tipp City’s Sammi Kozen and Madi Lieber. Despite a strong effort, the Lady Wave duo was defeated 3-6, 2-6.

While the Lady Wave may not have secured the win, they displayed resilience and determination, particularly in the first doubles match. The team will take these lessons forward as they continue to grow and improve throughout the season. Next up for the Lady Wave is a match at 10:00 on Wednesday morning against Celina.
