Greenville LWSB earns MVL walk off run rule victory over Piqua

GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave pounded out 15-hits in a convincing 16-6 run rule win over the visiting Piqua Lady Indians in Tuesday night MVL action.

“Great day for Lady Wave Softball and the stadium,” said Greenville coach, Jerrod Newland. “Great offensive mindset and practice this week. Pushing the league and tourney.”

The Lady Wave grabbed an early 2-0 lead with Skylar Fletcher leading off with a single to left and coming around to score on a Kendall Cromwell triple to right.

Piqua plated single runs in the top of the second and third-innings to knot the score at 2-2 with Greenville coming to the plate in the bottom of the third to break the game wide open scoring nine-runs to lead 11-2 after three complete.

The Lady Indians and Greenville had a matching three-run fourth-inning with the score standing at 14-5 with four-innings in the book.

The fifth-inning proved to be the final inning of the game with Piqua scoring a run in the top of the inning while Greenville was using a Kylar Arnett leadoff single, a Piqua error off the bat of Alaina Baughn, a Haleigh McDermitt walk and a two-run single off the bat of Addie Burke to give the Lady Wave a fifth-inning walk off conference win.

“Excited and proud of the kids and can’t wait until Vandalia Butler here tomorrow (Wednesday, April 26),” Newland stated. “Lots of nice offensive things and amazing stuff to come.”

Kylie Hamm earned the win pitching 4.1 innings allowing 6-earned runs on 6-hits, 3-walks while striking out two. Morgan Thompson tossed 0.2 scoreless innings in relief allowing 1-hit, no walks and no runs.

Kylar Arnett went 3-3 with a walk, 2-RBIs, and 3-runs scored; Fletcher was 3-3 including a double and 3-runs; Ashlyn Zimmer went 3-4 including 2-doubles and 2-runs scored.

Alaina Baughn was 2-4 including a double and 3-RBIs; Cromwell 2-3 including a triple, a walk, 2-RBIs and 2-runs; Addie Burke 1-4 with 2-RBIs and 2-runs; Burns 1-3 and 3-RBIs; Ella McLear 1-RBI.
