GREENVILLE – The Greenville boys tennis team defeated the Sidney Yellow Jackets and the Xenia Buccaneers for two MVL wins Tuesday night.

“Proud of good team wins to officially put us above .500 on the season with now being 8-7 and finishing the MVL regular season 5-4,” said Greenville coach, Sam Bowers.

The Tuesday night wins gives the Green Wave a six game win streak and improves the team’s overall record to 8-7 after a 2-7 start to open the season.

“I was especially impressed with our two Mason’s last night,” Coach Bowers noted. “Mason Pierri had a big first singles win, with winning the first set in a tight tie breaker and then going on to win the second set 6-0.”

“As a sophomore taking on the first singles slot where you are competing against the best a school has to offer every single night, he’s taken that challenge and competed with everyone tough,” added Bowers. “Him having a 9-5 record shows how much his hard work has paid off and has such a bright future ahead on and off the court.”

Earning winning Matches for Greenville included: Mason Pierri, Mason Middlestetter in singles and the doubles teams of Will Gettinger / Simon Snyder and Avery Young / Drew Beisner.

“Mason Middlestetter had a come from behind win, after losing the first set he came back to win sets two and three with ease,” Coach Bowers said. “He has been playing really solid tennis lately and his leadership helps guide our team.”

Greenville’s next home match is Friday, April 28 with a 4:30 p.m. start time when the Green Wave will honor its seniors on Senior Night at Greenville National Bank Tennis Courts.
