GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave coasted to a 41-32 MVL win over the visiting Fairborn Lady Skyhawks basketball team.
The Lady Wave bolted out to a 9-0 first quarter lead at the 2:50 mark with the teams putting up matching 32 points over the remainder of the game. Minaxi Pandey and Skylar Fletcher each score 5 points and Gracie Thacker and Megan Lind each added a basket to lead Greenville to a 14-6 first quarter score.
“Credit our girls to do enough to win,” Greenville coach, Rachael Kerns said following the game. “At the end of the night that ‘W’ is what we are looking for.”
Greenville took period No. 2 by a 9-7 score sending the teams to the break with the Lady Wave with a comfortable 23-13 double digit lead. Josie Camacho canned two 3-pointers in the period.
The Lady Skyhawks battle back to take the third quarter 13-7 cutting Greenville’s lead to 30-26 with three periods in the book.
Camacho had her second quarter of the night drilling two triples to lead the Lady Wave to an 11-6 fourth quarter score to earn the win over the stubborn Lady Skyhawks.
Greenville defensive specialist Avery Baumann went down Monday night in the Lady Wave 55-50 comeback win over Indian Lake with 03.9 seconds left in the game with an injury and was not in uniform in the Wednesday night win.
“It’s going to take time to adjust,” Kerns stated. “It’s kind of a new season – it’s kind of a new team. We have to learn to play with what we have and move forward.”
Josie Camacho led Greenville with 12 points, all coming from beyond the arc.
Greenville improves to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play on the season.
