ARCANUM – The Lady Trojans defeated the visiting National Trail Lady Blazers 60-22 in Thursday night WOAC varsity girls basketball action.

“I am happy for this one tonight but it’s going to be short-lived because we have to come out and prepare for a very good Versailles team we have on Saturday,” Arcanum coach, Abbey Moore said following the win.

Ashlyn Miller led the Lady Trojans with seven first-quarter points including a 3-pointer and 2-2 at the line giving Arcanum a 16-7 lead after one period of play.
The Lady Trojans grabbed its first double-digit lead of the night, 19-9 at 6:47 in quarter No. 2 with Arcanum taking the period 16-8 sending the teams to the halftime break with the home team leading 32-15. Caroline Long and Miller paced Arcanum with five points each with five Lady Trojans getting in the second quarter scoring column.

Arcanum’s best quarter came in the third with the Lady Trojans taking the period 20-5 led by Alexis Gibbons’ seven points including 3-3 at the charity stripe, five Matty Noe points including a trey, and Miller knocking down her third triple of the night.

“The second half we started to rebound the ball a little better which allowed us to transition and get the ball out like how we want to play,” stated Moore.
Brooke Anderson drained a 3-pointer with 7:20 showing on the fourth quarter clock for an Arcanum 55-20 advantage putting a running clock in play with Coach Moore going to her bench to close out the game with the Lady Trojans earning a 38-point conference win.
“All these girls put in this same amount of effort every day so it is good to empty the bench and get everybody playing time,” said Moore, “because they all deserve it.”

The Lady Trojans were an impressive 15-19 at the charity stripe for 79 percent accuracy at the line.
“That’s relieving, to say the least, because that’s been a struggle of ours here lately,” Coach Moore noted. “We’ve been shooting a lot of them in practice so to see that paying off is great.”

Miller led Arcanum and all scorers with a game-high 17 points and Gibbons tallied 15 points for winners. Eight Lady Trojans got into the scoring column for Coach Moore’s team.
“They both stepped up,” Coach Moore said of Miller and Gibbons. “Ash knocked down some from behind the line and got some fast breaks, did a great job running the floor when we were able to get stops defensively.”
With the win, Arcanum improves to 9-4 overall on the season and 5-2 in conference play. National Trail falls to 5-6 overall and 1-5 in the WOAC.
