GREENVILLE – The Greenville Track and Field five-day camp hosted 100 young campers under the direction of veteran Green Wave varsity coach Bill Plessinger.
Coach Plessinger has coached 30 years at Greenville City Schools, starting four years as the junior high coach and the past 26 years as the head Green Wave varsity coach.

The 2025 camp marks the 25th year Coach Plessinger has hosted the camp, with the inaugural event welcoming 25 youngsters.
“Every person working is either a former track athlete, a track coach at Greenville, or a current athlete,” Coach Plessinger said of his camp staff. “Our coach ratio is 3-to-1, 4-to-one; we don’t want to have one coach for 14 kids, they wouldn’t get coached.”

The camp teaches all track and field events with the exception of the pole vault.
“We teach them hurdles, hurdle form, we shot put, we throw discus, and we high jump,” Plessinger noted. “We teach relay exchanges, how to pass the baton, running form, how to run right, and we have a station with a game.”

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday basics are taught. Thursday is set aside for a camp track meet, with each camper participating. Friday is a day for awards and closing out the camp with swimming at the Greenville City Park.

“It’s a good way to end the camp,” Coach Plessinger concluded.
