GREENVILLE – The Peterson Farm Brothers drew a Thursday night overflow crowd at the 26th Annual Farm Power of the Past held in the Ohio Center on the grounds of the Darke County Fairgrounds.
The Peterson Farm Bros are made up of Greg, Nathan, and Kendal Peterson—the brothers who farm together with their families between Lindsborg and Assaria, Kansas. The trio produces entertaining and educational videos on their YouTube channel and posts farming and video updates to our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat).
“When we started doing this 13 years ago, when we were filming our first video, we never intended to have such a following or reach so many people,” said Greg. “Our very first video blew up – ‘I’m Farming and I Grow It’, back in 2012. Ever since then, it’s been way more than we ever thought it would be, and we’ve just kept rolling with it.”
Since beginning to produce content, the Peterson Farm Brothers have realized a need to inform people about what they do in farming and agriculture as a whole. There are many misconceptions about modern-day farmers, and they feel led to help correct some of those misconceptions. Aside from their social media presence, they travel around the country to speak and entertain.
“We film two to three music videos a year,” Greg said. “They are big commitments, but a lot of the “B Rolling” in the videos is shot throughout the year, so we are filming every week and posting other vlog-type videos. We can pull all the footage from those that have already been filmed. We film a music video over two or three days, it’s a time commitment, but you look at the overall body of work and hopefully the impact that’s being made, and it still feels worth it.”
The brothers also blog about misunderstood topics in agriculture and open up their farm for tours, weddings, and overnight stays on Airbnb. Through all of this, they hope to educate the general public on where their food comes from and what a real Midwest family farm looks like.
Family farms have been the backbone of America, and the Peterson Brothers understand the need for American family farms to continue producing food for the millions of Americans and people around the world.
“We feel that every day we’re working,” Greg noted. “We are the fifth generation on our farm, so you feel the weight of the generations before you, and even of looking forward to future generations and wanting to pass it on and keep it going. We’re still farming, and nothing has changed on that front through this whole experience. We just fit the videos and the traveling in on top of everything else.”
Growing up in rural Kansas, the Peterson Brothers were first known for their days as three-sport athletes playing for the Southeast of Saline High School Trojans, each lettering in football, basketball, and track and field.
“We were all three sports athletes, and that was our original Peterson Brothers,” said Greg. “The people knew us as the Peterson Brothers from sports before the videos.”
Greg Peterson invited everyone to visit the Peterson Farm Bros YouTube channel. The brothers created their first upload in March of 2012 with a video featuring our whole family called “Wheat Harvest on a Real Family Farm in Kansas.” In May 2012, Greg had an idea to create a parody music video with his brothers to educate their city friends about farming. The video was filmed throughout the month of June and posted at the end of the month. It was entitled “I’m Farming and I Grow It,” and was a parody of the song “I’m Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO. The song was a viral hit on YouTube, receiving over 5 million views in over 200 countries within two weeks. Since then, they have continued to make videos. The brothers have completed 30 total music videos and have over 250 million combined views on Facebook/YouTube/Instagram/Tiktok.
