GREENVILLE – The Greenville Lady Wave softball team is one step away from playing for an OHSAA Division III state championship, and the community is invited to help send the team off in style as they depart for Akron.

A community sendoff will take place on Wednesday, June 3, at Greenville City High School. Fans, family members, students, and supporters are encouraged to arrive by 2:45 p.m. as the Lady Wave begin their journey toward the state semifinals. The team will depart from the school at approximately 3 p.m.

The sendoff comes after Greenville’s remarkable postseason run that has propelled the Lady Wave to the state’s Final Four and within two victories of a state title.

Greenville opened tournament play with a dominant 12-0 victory over Trotwood-Madison. The Lady Wave pitching staff combined on a no-hitter while Greenville’s offense erupted early to secure the run-rule victory.

The Lady Wave followed with an 11-0 win over Butler in district tournament action. Greenville’s pitching again overwhelmed the opposition while the offense continued its balanced attack, advancing the Wave deeper into tournament play.

In the district championship game, Greenville defeated Miami Valley League rival Sidney to claim the district title. Strong pitching and timely hitting carried the Lady Wave past a familiar opponent and into regional competition.

The regional semifinal saw Greenville blank Tippecanoe 3-0 behind a no-hit masterpiece from sophomore pitcher Ella Oswalt. Greenville scored all three runs in the fifth inning while Oswalt dominated in the circle to send the Lady Wave to the regional championship.

The Lady Wave then punched their ticket to Akron by capturing the regional championship and securing the program’s return to the OHSAA State Final Four.

Greenville will face the Carroll Bloom-Carroll Lady Bulldogs in an OHSAA Division III state semifinal game on Friday, June 5, at Firestone Stadium in Akron. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs enter the contest after an impressive tournament run that included an upset victory over the state’s top-ranked team. Greenville enters the game with a 31-1 record while Bloom-Carroll brings a 24-4 mark into the semifinal showdown.

Should Greenville defeat Bloom-Carroll on Friday, the Lady Wave would advance to the Division III state championship game on Saturday, June 6, at 8 p.m.

The championship game opponent would be the winner of Friday’s other semifinal between Mansfield Madison Comprehensive and Louisville.

With a state championship now just two wins away, Greenville is calling on the community to show its support Wednesday afternoon as the Lady Wave begin their quest for softball’s biggest prize.
