GREENVILLE – Horseshoe pitchers from 13 states, including 28-time current World champion Alan Francis, descended on Greenville, known as the Horseshoe Capitol of the World, for the 65th annual Ringer Classic horseshoe pitching tournament at Greenville’s city park.
Greenville Senior High School’s Emily McLear sang the National Anthem for the prestigious horseshoe pitching event.
“We have had good weather, a little hot, but no rain,” said Darke County Horseshoe Club president Brian Fisher. “We had a lot of excellent pitchers this weekend.”
The July 4th weekend tournament had 84 signed up for the event, with $4,000 in prize money and trophies for the top finishers in each category.
Ohio’s Alan Francis defended his Ringer Classic title, easily defeating last year’s second-place finisher, Tyler Howard, with an 82.07-71.17 ringer percentage.
“Missouri’s Jennifer Gegg won the Lady’s Championship,” said Fisher. “Indiana’s Sharon Chiddister won the first-ever of its kind, the Elders Women’s Championship. That’s a new division this year.”
