DARKE COUNTY – On Saturday at approximately 9:34 p.m., Darke County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Gettysburg Rescue, Bradford Rescue, and CareFlight, responded to 7051 Auld Road in reference to an individual injured by a firework.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 12-year-old male juvenile was handling a firework when it exploded in his hand. An 8-year-old male juvenile was nearby when this happened.
The 12-year-old juvenile was transported to the Darke County Airport, then flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital via CareFlight for a severe hand injury.
The 8-year-old juvenile was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital to be treated for minor facial injuries. Both of their injuries are non-life-threatening.
This incident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
