GREENVILLE – The Green Wave freshmen defeated the visiting Stebbins Indians 38-32 in Tuesday night MVL action.

“We got off to a slow start,” said Greenville freshman coach, Joshua Moore. “I told them they have to have that buy-in effect and they have done it well the last three games.”

Greenville took a first-quarter 11-6 lead led by four Titus Eberwein points.

Quarter No. 2 two went to Stebbins by an 11-9 score sending the teams to the break with Greenville holding a slim 20-17 lead. Wave scoring came from three 3-pointers, one each from Jayden Tinkham, Gage Denham, and Michael McMahon.

Stebbins continued to battle back taking the third quarter 13-9 to lead 30-29 with three quarters in the book. Denham accounted for six Wave third-period points including his second triple of the night.

“We got in foul trouble early on,” Moore stated. “We had some guys come off the bench that haven’t given us big minutes but stepped up and did well today.”

Greenville took the final period 9-2 hitting several crucial free throws down the stretch including McMahon knocking down 4-4 at the fourth quarter line to outdistance the visiting Indians 38-32 in earning a conference win.

The Wave freshmen shot just 8-26 on the night at the charity stripe but managed to go 6-16 in the fourth to pull out the win.

“If we had hit more free throws we would have been up 10 or 12 but we knocked them down when it counted,” Moore noted.

“It’s good for them to get some wins under their belt and see them come together playing as a team,” said Greenville head varsity coach Matt Hamilton. “Different guys stepping up on different nights doing different roles and doing what’s needed together. It’s good to see.”
