GREENVILLE – The Lady Wave defeated the visiting West Carrollton 3-0 to sweep the Lady Pirates 2-0 in MVL 2025 volleyball action.
“It’s a good way to start the week,” said Greenville head coach Michelle Hardesty.
Before the start of the varsity match, Greenville honored Greenville American Legion Post 140 Sons of the American Legion, who graciously provided the funding for new Lady Wave uniforms and warm-ups. The American Flag is displayed on the uniform sleeves in honor of our country and the Sons of the American Legion.
It was noted that the Lady Wave Volleyball Team and the Greenville Athletic Department appreciate their generosity and unwavering patriotism. Because of their kindness, the Lady Wave Volleyball Team proudly wears brand new uniforms this season, adorned with the American Flag on their Sleeves.
Greenville took West Carrollton 25-9, 25-3, and 25-12 a week earlier on the Lady Pirates’ home court and won this Tuesday night 25-15, 25-7, and 25-14 to complete the season sweep.
Making her presence known recently in the starting lineup at the net was junior Aly Hamilton, No. 21.
“We changed the lineup, and Ally has stepped up,” Hardesty said. “She has just been crushing the ball, super proud of her. She’s worked hard all season. She is a very coachable girl who asks questions and earned her spot.”
The Lady Wave took an early 7-1 first-set lead and coasted to a 25-15 opening set win and went up 1-0 on the visitors.
“We made too many errors in the first set,” said Assistant Coach Jim Hardesty, “other than that, we had an excellent night overall.”
Set No. 2 had Greenville jumping out to a 206 advantage, bringing a timeout from the West Carrollton bench. The Lady Wave used a 5-1 run to take the second set 25- 7 and lead 2-0 on the night.
Coach Hardesty went to her bench the entire third set with all Lady Wave seeing the court as the teams played to scores of 10-10, 11-11, 12-12 before Kara Blumenstock stepped to the serving line with eight straight serves, including three consecutive aces for Greenville extending its lead to 19-12.
“It’s good to get every member of the team in on some of these nights where we have that opportunity and boost their confidence and get them ready for when the possibility might come along this season,” said Michelle.
“We try not to keep girls around just to sit them on the bench,” she continued. “Everybody is getting playing time, whether it’s at the JV or the varsity level, and we give them that opportunity to sit varsity and see what happens.”
Greenville took advantage of a 5-2 scoring run to close out the night with a third-set 25-14 victory.
“It was a good team win,” said Coach Jim Hardesty. “We had an excellent night overall. We’re right where we want to be, that’s five in a row for us right now, so we’re starting to play really well at the end of the year, and that’s when you want to be playing your best.”
With the win, Greenville improves to 11-9 overall and 9-7 in Miami Valley League play.
