GREENVILLE – Each month, the Greenville Public Library displays a different collection for visitors to view and enjoy.
“Every month we have a different collection,” said Rachel Brock, GPL Genealogy Specialist. “Carolyn Fisher does an excellent job of scheduling them. Anyone can give us a call at 937-548-3915 if they have a collection that they would like to put in for everyone to see.”
Displays have included LEGOs, gourds, and cookie jars. Each September, the Fort Greene Ville Daughters of the American Revolution hosts an American Constitution display in celebration of Constitution Week.
October’s display is a collection of electric trains by Lee Stanley, a Greenville resident.
“It is my pleasure to bring a display up here for these ladies,” said Stanley. “They do a fantastic job, and you need to visit the library and see what all these ladies do, and it’s something different every month.”
Stanley has been collecting electric trains for 30 years and received his first one in 1954, which he still has.
“I still have the first electric train I got for Christmas in 1954,” Stanley noted. “It is the same year as the one on display on the bottom shelf here at the library, except mine was played with a lot; it has a few scratches on it.”
The identical highly sought-after engine on display is in mint condition for the public to view.
“It is in mint condition, there are no scratches, no chips on that paint at all,” said Stanley. “You don’t find trains in that condition very often, except a brand new one, and I like the old trains better than the new ones.”
