PITSBURG – The Franklin Monroe Jets Basketball program held their 2025 Boys Youth Basketball Camp under the guidance of veteran Franklin Monroe head varsity basketball coach Troy Myers. The three-day camp included participants entering second grade through eighth grade.
“The thing I love the most was the spirit in the gym,” said Coach Myers. “We have boys in here, we have girls in here, we have second graders, we have eighth graders, and the spirit amongst all of them, including our high school kids, was tremendous.”
“When kids have a spirit of enjoyment, it’s exciting and they are more apt to learn,” Myers continued. “I believe they did both at the camp. They learned, there was a lot of excitement in the gym, and as a result, everybody got better.”
The purpose of the camp was to instruct young players in the fundamentals of the game while instilling a love and appreciation for basketball and sportsmanship.
“The high school assistants helping are the best that you will find; they are tremendous,” Myers stated. “They are head coaches, and they could run this camp without me, which says a lot about them.”
The team of camp instructors included high school staff, as well as former and current Franklin Monroe players, creating an upbeat, fast-paced, and enthusiastic environment.
“Our high school kids have gone through camp and now they’re camp coaches, so for them to be hands-on and teach the skill that we’re teaching them in high school is tremendous for them, it accelerates their learning,” Coach Myers concluded. “Just watching them today, they’re teaching it, but they are doing so with some passion, a clear voice, with the clarity and the skill. I am super proud of them.”
