GREENVILLE – This past May, Greenville’s 2021 graduate, Isabelle Rammel, completed an incredible four-year career at Walsh University in Canton, Ohio. Walsh is an NCAA Division II university member that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Rammel achieved some high accolades both in her running and in the classroom, including being awarded the conference’s most prestigious award (Great Midwest Elite 26 Award) for excellence in the classroom and on track and cross country courses as a long-distance runner.
Rammel, who was a Government and Foreign Affairs major at Walsh, will now continue her pursuit of a law degree at The Ohio State University this fall and will compete athletically post-collegiately for the Columbus Road Runners club team.
At Greenville High School, Isabelle left a legacy as one of the best female distance runners, both at Greenville and in Darke County.
During her senior campaign at Greenville, Rammel had highlights of winning the historic Treaty City Invitational cross country meet, along with qualifying for the state cross country meet. During the winter at Greenville, Rammel finished 10th in the Division 1 state indoor 3,200 m race, competing against many future NCAA Division 1 athletes. Spring track saw continued success for her in winning the MVL 1600 meters and winning a district title in the 3,200 meters.
As her senior season progressed, Rammel had numerous opportunities to continue running collegiately, including at the University of Dayton, Indiana State, and Hillsdale, before ultimately deciding on Walsh University due to its strong academic and athletic appeal.
Isabelle’s time at Walsh saw her develop into one of the university’s top long-distance runners, both in cross-country and track, focusing on the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. In Cross Country, Isabelle, as a freshman, helped Walsh qualify for NCAA Division II nationals, and then, in her senior year, helped Walsh win a conference championship.
Her 4th-place finish highlighted the development in the 10,000 meters at her conference meet this past May.
In her first post-collegiate race, two weeks after her final race at Walsh Rammel, she competed in the Cleveland Marathon, where she ran 3:08:36 and finished as the fifth overall female, earning herself a Boston Marathon qualifying time.
This summer, Isabelle competed in the USATF women’s 6k championships in Canton, Ohio, where she placed 13th overall in the women’s field.
This summer, Isabelle has continued her running and working locally at Haines Law office, gaining experience in law that she hopes to practice in the Greenville area.
Rammel has been running with and providing guidance to local high school athletes, serving as a strong role model for inspiring young athletes in Darke County. A perfect example of a great athlete being an even greater person for her community.
