NEW PARIS – The Blue Star Mothers of America OH 11 Echo 1 and the Darke County Fish and Game Association held their second annual Fishing with a Hero event with a time to show our local veterans we are grateful for their sacrifices.
“We are honoring our veterans and bringing them out for a fun day of fishing,” said Julain Jones, President of Blue Star Mothers of America Ohio 11 Echo 1.
Blue Star Mothers of America Ohio 11 Echo 1 includes four counties: Ohio’s Darke and Preble counties and Indiana’s Randolph and Wayne Counties.
Blue Star Mothers of America Ohio 11 Echo 1 participated in the opening ceremonies kicking off the day’s event.
A free meal was provided, and door prizes were given for the largest, smallest, and most fish caught.
The largest fish of the day was 18.5 inches, the smallest was five inches, and the biggest catch was a total of five fish.
The event was open to the public of all ages and included fishing, family fun events, and the opportunity to visit with local veterans. The day gave people a chance to learn about Blue Star Mothers and the Fish and Game Club while winning prizes, listening to patriotic music, signing a card, or color a picture to be sent along with a care package for our deployed military.
Jones said she would like to thank all her fellow mothers, the Fish and Game Club, and the raffle item donors.
“We couldn’t have done it without everybody’s help,” Jones said.
