H. Virginia O’Dell of Greenville (105)


H. Virginia O’Dell age 105, of Greenville, passed away at 4:27 pm Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Ohio Hospice of Miami County in Troy.

Virginia was born March 22, 1919, in Fort Jefferson to the late Samuel B. & Julia (Suma) McCabe. Virginia was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. O’Dell; son, Ronald Lee O’Dell; daughter-in-law, Denise O’Dell; and siblings, Gladys (McCabe) Lehman, Shirley “Shirl” McCabe, Warren McCabe, Althea (McCabe) Hubbard, Bernice (McCabe) McMiller and Samuel Orien McCabe.

Virginia is survived by a son, Larry G. O’Dell of Greenville; daughter-in-law, Judy O’Dell; grandchildren, Glee & Bob Wills, Julie Sebring, Gena & Ronnie Bane, Jalynn O’Dell, Rob & Amy O’Dell and Lon & Dianna O’Dell; step-grandchildren, Kelly & Duane Sanning, Kipp & Teri Ann Kline, Kathy & John Lemaster, Kurt Kline and Kristi & Scott Neanen; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia was an active farmwife. She worked at Hannah’s Greenhouse and later retired from Producers Livestock in Greenville where she was the secretary. Virginia was a lifelong member of Fort Jefferson United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Greenville Moose and Wildflower Garden Club in Greenville. Virginia was a former 4-H Advisor. She enjoyed showing flowers at the Great Darke County Fair, playing cards and fishing.

A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Bill Davis and Rev. John Wiltshire officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Jefferson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Jefferson United Methodist Church, Ohio Hospice of Miami County or the Wildflower Garden Club.
