It looks like everybody has been having a good time at the Great Darke County Fair. That’s based on all of the photos I’ve seen on Facebook, and I hope that happiness continues through the rest of the week.
The heat had to be a downer for some fair-goers, and I hope the temperatures get cooler as each day passes. That would make the festival even more enjoyable, I would assume.
Jamie and I are staying home this year, but hopefully we can return for next year’s family-friendly event.
Congratulations to all who have won awards and are in contention for more awards this week. That’s when the hard work pays off.
The Darke County Fair, for years, has featured food, games, rides, entertainment with all kinds of concerts, horse racing, Demolition Derby, horseshoe games, tractor pulls, livestock shows, flower shows and agricultural displays in the basement of the Coliseum, Fine Arts and Domestic Arts exhibits (hoping I’m not missing anything).
Unlike other years when I was out there reporting on people and events, it seems the fair this year has gone by fairly fast.
Next thing you know fall and winter will be here. not to mention the opening of schools. That is what I usually dreaded after the fair ended.
Yes, I decided to forego the fair again another year (second in a row), but hopefully next year will be different for Jamie and me. I asked him what he missed this year and he said seeing his friends and the rides he used to go on when he was younger.
I did miss some of the assignments I usually had during fair week: the selection of fair royalty, the results at the Domestic Arts department, the oldest person in attendance on Monday, and the 4-H revues in the Youth Building.
