GREENVILLE – The Great Darke County Fair crushed it with a Sunday night Travis Tritt concert before a Grandstand packed house.
Tritt, a long-time advocate and fan of the United States Military and Veterans, entertained the large crowd with past hits and new songs while honoring our Nation’s military and veterans.
Tyler Reese Tritt opened for her father before the country singer took the stage.
Tritt shared his thoughts about our Nation’s upcoming 250th Anniversary.
“I believe throughout all that time, there’s only been two things that have protected us in this country from our enemies,” Tritt said. “I believe the two things that have protected us for all these years are Almighty God and our United States Military, and that’s it.”
“If you are here tonight and you ever served in any branch of our United States Military, I have a personal message I would like to deliver to all of you,” continued Tritt. “As far as I’m concerned, if you were to look up the word hero in the dictionary, I think you should see all names and all your faces next to that word because that’s what you are to me, you’re heroes. May God bless you, may God bless your families, and may God always bless the United States of America.”
Tritt’s association with veterans and veterans’ issues got started because of a video he did for the song titled “Anymore.”
Tritt served as a spokesperson for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) between 1993 and 1996. He also received the VA Secretary’s Award in 1993 for his work with veterans. He was awarded the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall of Fame Award in 2001 for his distinguished service to the nation, veterans, and the armed forces.
He was also presented a Public Service award from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at the Washington VA Medical Center. He received the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall of Fame Award, which honors an entertainer for distinguished service to the nation, veterans, and the armed forces.
Tritt shared the importance, recognition, and honor Darke County received during World War II.
“Darke County had so many people who bought war bonds back in World War II, more than any other place in the country; they named a battleship, the USS Darke, after this place in the county, right here,” Tritt stated. “You should be very proud if you’re from here.”
