201

GREENVILLE – On Saturday, seven DeColores Montessori students competed at the Upper Miami Valley Regional Science Day held at Edison State Community College in Piqua after advancing from the county science day competition.

Over 125 projects were presented at the regional competition and evaluated by judges, each knowledgable in their respective field. Teagan Brock, Christina Conklin, Eli Pence, and Conner Feldner received “Excellent” ratings. Jonathan Conway, Nalayna Miley, and Caleb Miller received “Superior” ratings and will advance to the state level competition.

Project category awards were given and Caleb Miller was 2nd overall in Microbiology. Nalayna Miley was 1st in Physics and Astronomy and also received the award for Best Presentation of Data. Christina Conklin and Nalayna Miley won scholarships to the Wooster Buckeye Women in Science, Research, and Engineering Camp.

Science provides students with an introduction to the world of logical thinking and research. Decolores Montessori students practice these skills in their daily work on campus and use this foundation as a basis for their Science Fair projects. Students researched and designed experiments in their areas of interest, prepared visual displays, and conducted oral presentations for the competitions.

A special ‘thank you’ extends to the Montessori faculty for supporting this wonderful experience for the students.
