Harley Hanes is a junior member of the Mississinawa Valley-MVCTC FFA Chapter. Harley raises and works her own market lambs for show season.

At the Ohio State Fair, she won Third Overall Commercial Ewe, Fifth Overall Outstanding Market Exhibitor, and Senior Showmanship.

At the Darke County Fair, she won Grand Champion Junior Fair Market Lamb, Grand Champion Junior Fair Ewe Show, Grand Champion Open Show Market Lamb, Champion Overall Sheep Showman, and Champion Showman of Showman.

To win, Showman of Showman Harley had to show every type of animal on the fairgrounds and receive the best-combined score. She has been showing since she was 4 years old and says that she knows “everything happens for a reason.”

Harley has to wake up early and work almost all day with her sheep to get them ready to show. She has to work their leg hair, feed them, and exercise them.

“It’s a lot of early mornings and late nights,” Harley says.

She is also a member of the Swine Koolers 4-H club. Harley’s future plans include attending college to major in Animal and Nutrition Sciences. She also hopes to be a part of a livestock judging team. Harley says she will always, “set her goals high and never stop chasing them.”

Congratulations, and good luck, Harley!
