GREENVILLE—The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday to discuss critical infrastructure. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Marshall Combs and Larry Holmes were all present.

The board approved Resolution (R-25-2023), to propose the Village of Arcanum be the recipient of a CDBG Critical Infrastructure Program grant, along with appropriate administrative expenses for reconstruction of portions of East, First and Albright Streets due to potholes and broken pavement that create safety issues for local traffic and pedestrians with funding proposed.

Proposed funding is Critical Infrastructure Grant – Street Improvements: $485,000, and Critical Infrastructure Grant – Grant Administration $ 15,000,00, with a total request of $500,000.

Next, the board approved Resolution (R-26-2023), to propose the Village of Gettysburg to be the recipient of a CDBG Critical Infrastructure Program grant, along with appropriate administrative expenses for replacement of a 100,000 gallon water tower as the current tower is experiencing failures of the structural and coating systems as well as does not meet many OSHAA standards.

Proposed funding is Critical Infrastructure Grant – Water Facility Improvements $485,000, and Critical Infrastructure Grant – Grant Administration $ 15,000,00, with a total request of $500,000.

Commissioner Aultman said if they don’t get approved for the grants, they will reapply next year.

Commissioner Holmes added the water tower in Gettysburg is past due for replacement.

“That replaces a water tower placed in 1953 I believe,” he said. “They got their money’s worth with that water tower. It’s served them well.”
