City of Piqua smoke testing sewer lines through April 5

132

PIQUA – The City of Piqua’s Utility Department, in collaboration with Fishbeck Inc., is conducting smoke testing of sanitary sewers today through April 5, weather permitting.

These tests assist City crews in locating breaks and defects in the sewer system. The accompanying map depicts the testing areas/locations, with the crews beginning work in the southern portion of the coverage area and working their way north.

Red door hangers will be distributed to the homes in the testing areas. The door hanger has important information and instructions that residents are requested to read and follow. Pouring water into basement drains and unused sinks helps to prevent the smoke from entering buildings.

Residents who spot smoke coming from vent stacks on buildings or from holes in the ground should not be alarmed. The smoke is odorless, non-toxic and non-staining and poses no fire hazard. The smoke dissipates within a few minutes.

If you have any questions regarding the smoke testing process, the information provided, or instructions for residents, call the City of Piqua Utilities Department at (937) 778-2018.
