GREENVILLE – Artwork Contest for the ‘Darke Side of the Moon’ Eclipse Mural Selfie Station!

Darke County is on the path of a once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. The last total solar eclipse visible from Ohio happened in 1806. The next one occurs in 2099. People from all over are expected to visit Darke County to watch the eclipse!

THEME: Darke County Visitors Bureau (DCVB) is seeking artwork to be used as a temporary mural for an Eclipse Mural Selfie Station. The artwork should spark a creative connection to the eclipse event.

ECLIPSE MURAL SELFIE SPOT:
● The artwork selected will be digitized, enlarged, and printed on panels 4′ tall x 8′ wide. This mural will be displayed from early March through the eclipse.
● The panels will be installed at Lynn Hamilton’s lot at the intersection of Broadway & 571W. This highly visible spot (diagonally across from Maid-Rite) has 7,500 cars per day passing per ODOT.
● There will be a separate piece next to the mural listing the winning artist’s name and the sponsors: DCVB, Main Street Greenville’s Mural Committee, and Wintrow Signs.

CONTEST DETAILS:
● Any Darke County resident may enter.
● The image needs to be community-friendly for all ages.
● Any medium (oil, watercolor, digital art, crayon, marker, etc.) may be used for a 2-D piece.
● The artwork must be original and not include any copyrighted images. By submitting your work for this contest, you attest it is original.
● Any work submitted MUST include this text: “Darke Side of the Moon,” “April 8, 2024,” and “Greenville, OH.” ● Deadline for entry: Friday, February 16, 2024, digitally as a .jpg or a .png and emailed to

CONTEST WINNER: Your work will be in the SUNSHINE for all to see! In addition to having the first selfie opportunity, you will receive your winning entry printed on a 20″ x 30″ canvas to keep (following display in the DCVB Welcome Center window). You will also be included in post-event publicity.

JUDGING: Done by members of the boards of DCVB, Main Street Greenville, and the Mural Committee. (Anyone associated with any of the above groups may enter but will be excluded from judging).
