ARCANUM – The Arcanum Lady Trojans earned a 63-28 WOAC win over the visiting Franklin Monroe Lady Jets in Thursday night varsity basketball action.
“Hats off to those seven girls,” Arcanum coach Abbey Moore said of the Franklin Monroe Lady Jets. “They come out and give it their all. You can tell they work hard every day and that showed for some of the shots they made tonight.”

“I have a lot of respect for those girls and Coach Barga for sticking the course,” Coach Moore added. “They’re not only doing it for them but to keep that program alive and that takes a lot of character out of those girls so hats off to them.”
“I knew they were good,” said Franklin Monroe coach Tim Barga. “Arcanum is well rounded and coaching staff wise all the way through the players. It goes all the way down the players, all of them are good. I give them a lot of credit and wish them good luck in the tournament.”
Arcanum’s Brooke Anderson, Matty Noe, and Alexis Gibbons drained 3-pointers to go along with a Caroline long bucket in the paint, giving the Lady Trojans an 11-2 lead with 4:36 showing on the first quarter clock.

“That girl is such an inspiration,” Coach Moore said of her senior’s injury-riddled season. “It’s going to be about keeping her where I can keep putting her on the floor for a couple of minutes here and there and do what she can do the way she can see the floor and find the open man is incredible. That allows her to get an open look every now and then.”
The Lady Jets’ battled back with Kyra Barnes and Caydance Nichols, each canning a three, and Presley Cox and Peyton Buhl added a first-quarter basket for an Arcanum 21-10 lead with one period in the book.

“First three times down the court we turned the ball over and they scored,” Coach Barga stated. “We were right in the ballgame in the first quarter then turnovers really killed us.”
Anderson drilled two second-quarter treys to pace the Lady Trojans to a 17-2 second quarter sending the teams to the halftime break with Arcanum leading 38-12.

Alexis Gibbon went 5-for-5 at the third quarter free throw line and knocked down two baskets to lead the Lady Trojans with nine points in taking period No. 3 by a 16-9 score.
Arcanum earned the conference win with a 9-7 fourth quarter, giving the Lady Trojans a running clock 35-point win.

Gibbins led Arcanum and all scorers with a game-high 18 points, including 9-9 at the free throw line.
Arcanum improves to 11-8 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
