ARCANUM – The Arcanum Trojans basketball program, under the direction of veteran head coach Kevin Brackman, hosted 120 young athletes to its annual youth basketball camp, with the high school players assisting the campers.

“We’ve had two pretty successful years, the last two years,” said Brackman. “The kids that come out during the season and get to watch our high school kids play, we see those same faces here that show up to camp.”
“Numbers have grown year after year,” Brackman continued. “We’re excited to see the same faces coming back because what that tells us is that we’re doing a decent job, and they enjoy spending time in the gym with our high school kids.”

The four-day camp’s morning sessions included grades six through eight, with 40 campers, while the afternoon session saw 80 boys in grades one through five.
“We have a great staff,” Brackman noted. “Coach Kramer, my father, Coach Brackman, and Coach Troutwine have been a huge help this week.”

Coach Brackman and staff put a large emphasis on handling the ball at the 2025 youth camp.
“A lot of ball handling, especially to the younger group,” Brackman noted. “Passing and catching, form shooting, the way to use each other. We’re emphasizing being tough, being physically tough and handling the mental side of the game, being tough-minded, being in line, staying together as good teammates, being grateful, having joy, and being selfless.”

“We already have kind of an idea of how things might look next year for us, and Arcanum basketball is in a special place,” Coach Brackman concluded. “Putting the team first is our motto.”
