TV South takes wins over F-M, TCN 

Franklin Monroe 41, Twin Valley South 45

Twin Valley South’s boys’ basketball team outscored Franklin Monroe 21-11 in the fourth quarter to take a 45-41 win at home. The Panthers were down by five entering the final period.

TVS jumped out to an early lead, 12-4, at the end of the first quarter. F-M bounced back with a 19-3 run to lead at halftime, 23-15. TVS cut into that lead by two points in the third period.

Jandon Ankrom led the Panthers with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Chandler Ulrich added 10 points.

Tri-County North 38, Twin Valley South 45

Friday, Dec. 9

TVS hosted Tri-County North in this year’s North/South rivalry game, with the home team taking a hard-fought win.

South opened the game with a 17-7 run to take a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter. That advantage proved to be the difference in the game, as TCN outscored South 31-28 after the opening period.

Junior Jace Thuma led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Eric Allison with 10 for TVS.

Back-to-back wins for TVS gets them back to .500 for the season at 3-3. The Panthers are 2-1 in Western Ohio Athletic Conference play.

TCN battles Yellow Springs, TV South

Tuesday, Dec. 6

Tri-County North’s boys’ basketball team took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter against Yellow Springs, but couldn’t hold on for the win. In a close game, the Panther led at the end of each quarter, but were outscored 17-11 in the final period.

Logan Flory and Jon Shirley each had 12 points for TCN. Flory also had six rebounds. Levi Pahl added six points and pulled down seven rebounds. 

Tri-County North 38, Twin Valley South 45

Friday, Dec. 9

TCN got off to a slow start in the first half of their game against rival Twin Valley South. North fell behind 17-7 in the first quarter and was not able to make up that deficit. They outscored TVS in the remaining three quarters, 31-28.

Logan Flory led North with 18 points.

Arrows bounce back with pair of wins 

Preble Shawnee 48, Ponitz 58

Tuesday, Dec. 6

Preble Shawnee’s boys’ basketball lost its first game of the season on Tuesday. The Arrows fell behind early on the road at Ponitz, down by 11 at the end of the first quarter. They were able to cut into the lead in the second and third quarters, but Ponitz held on for the 58-48 win.

Mason Shrout led the Arrows with 27 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds. Logan Hawley added 10 points, and Isaac Blankenship led the team with nine rebounds.

Franklin Monroe 33, Preble Shawnee 62

Friday, Dec. 9

The Arrows bounced back with a convincing win over Franklin Monroe on Friday. This time it was PS that took the early advantage, up 25-12 at the end of the first quarter. They continued to control the game in the second and third periods, holding the Jets to just nine points total. 

Shrout led the Arrows with 25 points, followed by Hawley with 16 points and seven rebounds. 

Madison 41, Preble Shawnee 67

Saturday, Dec. 10

The Arrows made it back-to-back wins on Saturday defeating Madison. Again, PS put together a strong first half leading 36-18 at the break. They put the game away in the third quarter outscoring Madison 22-14.

The pair of wins pushes Preble Shawnee’s record to 4-1, 2-0 in WOAC. They are scheduled to make the drive across Preble County to play National Trail on Friday, Dec. 16.

Big first half lifts National Trail over MV 

National Trail 57, Mississinawa Valley 48

Friday, Dec. 9

After struggling offensively in their last game, National Trail’s boys’ basketball team scored 34 in the first half against MV. The Blazers took a 34-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. That advantage proved to the difference in the game as NT went on to a nine-point win.

Kellen Laird led the Blazers with 23 points, followed by Nick Brubaker with 15 and Logan Smith with 12. Smith also pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Blazers are now 3-2 on the season, 2-1 in the WOAC. They are scheduled to travel to Brookville on Tuesday, Dec. 13, and then host Preble Shawnee on Friday.

Eaton falls to Waynesville by one point

Friday, Dec. 9

Eaton’s boys’ basketball team looked to get back on track after a loss to Bellbrook earlier in the week, traveling to Waynesville.

The Eagles and Spartans battled back and forth in a close game. The Eagles found themselves down by four, 33-29, going into the final quarter. They were able to outscore the Spartans 12-9 but fell short, 42-41.

After opening the season 2-0, Eaton is now 2-2 on the season, 1-2 in the Southwestern Buckeye League.

The Eagles have a full schedule this coming week starting on the road at Talawanda on Tuesday, Dec. 13. They will host back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday with Madison and Ross.
