Eaton battles Brookville, comeback falls short

Eaton’s girls’ basketball team struggled offensively in a physical game against Brookville. As a result, the Eagles fell behind 27-13 in the first half. Brookville hit three, 3-pointers in the second quarter, including a near half-court shot at the buzzer to help build the 14-point lead.

Eaton was able to shut down the Blue Devil offense in the second half, holding them to just six points. The Eagles rallied in the fourth quarter outscoring Brookville, 12-2, but still fell short.

Eaton is now 3-3 on the season, 2-3 in the Southwestern Buckeye League. They are scheduled to play a non-league matchup against Ross on Monday, Dec. 12, and then get back to SWBL play against Valley View on Thursday.

Fourth quarter surge leads TCN to win 

Twin Valley South 19, Tri-County North 42

An 18-1 fourth quarter run for the Tri-County North girls’ basketball team turned a close game into a 42-19 win. TCN held just a three-point lead at halftime, 16-13, as both teams struggled offensively. They stretched the lead to six in the third quarter, before putting the game out of reach in the fourth.

Senior Rilee Terry led North with 16 points and 19 rebounds. Freshman Bella Cherry added 10 points and nine rebounds, while Hannah Webster added seven points and eight rebounds.

The win puts North at 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference. They will be on the road next week including Newton on Tuesday, Dec. 13, and Bradford on Thursday.

Preble Shawnee defeats F-M Jets 

Preble Shawnee 50, Franklin Monroe 36

Preble Shawnee’s girls’ basketball team remains unbeaten in Western Ohio Athletic Conference play after a 50-36 win over Franklin-Monroe. The Arrows are 4-2 overall, 3-0 in the WOAC.

Although each quarter was close, the Arrows led by five at halftime, and built a double-digit lead by the end of the third quarter, 36-26. 

Preble Shawnee is scheduled to host Talawanda on Monday, Dec. 12, and then travel to National Trail on Thursday.
