GREENVILLE — Fairgoers can take care of more than having fun and enjoying fair food during this year’s Great Darke County Fair — they can also take a few minutes to check on their health.
Wayne HealthCare is once again welcoming visitors to its air-conditioned tent at the fairgrounds, where medical professionals will provide free screenings, health information and opportunities to talk with providers throughout the week.
The Wayne HealthCare tent will be open from noon to 9 p.m. daily during the Great Darke County Fair, which runs Aug. 21-29.
Terri Flood, vice president of marketing and business development at Wayne HealthCare, said the hospital will bring several of its service lines directly to the community Monday through Friday, Aug. 24-28.

“We have many services lined up next Monday through Friday: skin cancer screenings, orthopedic services, just checkups on your health,” Flood said.
The provider schedule begins Monday with free skin cancer screenings, along with orthopedic services beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday will feature a free career check-up, with orthopedic services again beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Free pain management screenings are scheduled for Wednesday.
On Thursday, members of Wayne HealthCare’s maternity team will be available to answer questions about birthing services, while physical therapy representatives also will be on hand.

Flood said Regina Duff, director of Wayne HealthCare’s Special Beginnings unit, will be joined by members of her team to discuss maternity care and the services available to expectant mothers and their families.
“Even our obstetrics team, Regina Duff, who is the director of our Special Beginnings unit, is going to be here with some folks from her team, talking about maternity care and the services that they offer,” Flood said.
The week’s provider schedule concludes Friday with free spirometry screenings, which measure how well a person’s lungs are functioning.
Flood said bringing Wayne HealthCare professionals to the fair gives residents an opportunity to learn more about services available close to home and ask questions in a relaxed setting.
“We’re just excited to have some of our service line leaders coming out, educating the community about the services that we have,” Flood said.
Health screenings and information are only part of what Wayne HealthCare offers during the nine-day fair.
The hospital’s air-conditioned tent has become a longtime fixture at the fairgrounds and provides visitors with a place to get out of the heat, sit down, rest and have a cool drink of water.
“We’re one of the longest-standing tents here on the fairgrounds,” Flood said. “We’re just honored to be able to have this nice, clean space.”
The tent is also designed with families in mind. Baby changing stations are available, along with a private area where mothers can breastfeed their babies.
Flood said those amenities are an important part of Wayne HealthCare’s presence at the fair and its effort to make families comfortable during their visit.
“It’s a place where people can come in and rest, relax, and get a cool drink of water,” Flood said. “We’re just delighted to be here. We’re honored to be able to offer this for our community.”
Wayne HealthCare’s tent will remain open from noon to 9 p.m. each day through the final day of the Great Darke County Fair on Aug. 29.
