Wave drops MVL baseball game to Piqua

GREENVILLE – The Green Wave varsity boys baseball team lost a 6-4 MVL game in the late innings to the visiting Piqua Indians.

“I can’t ask for much more from our guys,” said Greenville coach Adam Eberwein. “Our guys played an excellent game, they gave it everything they had.”

“Piqua is undefeated in the MVL, they’re 8-0, they have 2 losses on the season,” Eberwein continued. “We’ve been preaching to our guys to come out and play complementary baseball.”

Piqua grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first with Greenville rebounding with 4 runs in the bottom of the third to lead 4-2 heading to fourth inning action.

Greenville’s scoring came on a Layne Hocker one-out single to right, an Adam Edwards single to left, and a 2-out 3 run Owen Mcgreevey double to left.

Braeden Wills followed with a walk setting up a Cole Oswalt RBI single to left giving Greenville a 4-2 lead that would hold up through 5 innings of play.

Piqua regained the lead with a 3-run sixth inning and added a single run in the top of the seventh 6-4 with Greenville going down in order in the bottom of the inning giving the visitors a 2-run conference win.

“The experiences these boys are getting at this time is only going to make our program better in the long run,” Coach Eberwein stated. “These guys are giving everything they have, they’ve earned the positions they’re playing. These young guys are competitors and the future is bright.”

“You put the ball in play good things will happen,” added Eberwein. “Today we did that. We put the ball in play. Kudos to Piqua for making some defensive plays they needed to.”

Greenville’s Adam Edwards went the distance on the mound allowing 5 earned runs, 9 hits, and 2 walks while striking out 6 batters.

Owen Mcgreevey went 2-4 including a double and 3 RBIs and Cole Oswalt was 2-2 including a double, a walk, and an RBI. Edwards 1-4 with a run; Titus Eberwein 1-4 and a run; Quinton Garner 1-3; Isaac Kerg a run and Wills 2 walks.
