Violet Gaye Fitzwater Bruner, 83 of Richmond passed away on February 27, 2023, at Reid Health after a long illness. She was born May 18, 1939, in Darke Co., Ohio to Willie Parker and Edna Lee Shaffer Fitzwater; she lived in the Richmond area for the last 50 years.
She has worked for Corning Glass, Birt’s Sewing Center, and for 21 years she worked at U.S. Bank.
Gaye cherished her primary roles as wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed hosting family and friends, cooking, and making pies for family gatherings. She and her husband made several quilts together; she made a quilt for each of her grandchildren. Gaye was an avid gardener and canner; her children and grandchildren loved her homemade grape juice, applesauce, and apple butter. She enjoyed visiting with friends, and family, and loved her grandchildren immensely; Gaye and Grover enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada together.
Gaye was a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond; she enjoyed gospel music, and bible study, and worked in the quilt club ministry along with other activities; she was also a member of a bunco club with several friends.
She is survived by Grover, her husband of 67 years, one son Rodney (Susan) Bruner of Columbus, Indiana, one daughter Rhonda (Randy) Moore of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA., eight grandchildren Robert (Cara) Bruner, Eugene (Brooke) Vivelo, Andrew (Jade) Prince, Stephanie (Matt) Sour, Sherrie Bruner, Lisa Loar, Georgie Robertson, Alexander Moore; one sister Marie Schlechty, one brother John Fitzwater, several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson Tyler Moore, and also her sister Hazel Parmenter.
Services will be 12:00 PM Monday, March 6, 2023, at First Baptist Church with Rev. James Spon officiating; burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Monday at the church.
