VERSAILLES – The Versailles High School Music Department is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Into the Woods. Set to be performed on March 27, 28 & 29, this magical and thought-provoking show promises to be a memorable experience for audiences of all ages.
Into the Woods, a Tony Award-winning musical, intertwines several classic fairy tales—such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack and the Beanstalk—with original characters and a compelling plot that explores the consequences of wish fulfillment. With its captivating music, witty lyrics, and deep themes, the production offers an engaging blend of fantasy and reality, joy and sorrow.
The Versailles High School production will feature a talented cast of seventy students in grades 6-12. Under the direction of Mason DeMange, the students have been hard at work rehearsing and perfecting their performances for the past winter months. This ambitious show promises to showcase their dedication and passion for music.
The story revolves around a group of fairy tale characters, each seeking to fulfill their wishes. A baker and his wife long for a child, while Cinderella wishes to attend the ball. Little Red Riding Hood hopes to make it to her grandmother’s house safely, and Jack seeks riches from the mysterious beanstalk. But when their wishes come true, the characters must navigate the unforeseen consequences of their desires. As they venture “into the woods,” they learn valuable lessons about responsibility, the complexities of life, and the importance of understanding the larger picture.
Into the Woods is not just a production for Versailles High School—it’s an event that brings the community together. Local families, students, and alumni are encouraged to attend and support the arts, as this performance will showcase the immense talent within the Versailles Community.
