
VERSAILLES – The Versailles Lady Tigers raced out to a 13-0 lead over the Urbana Hillclimbers at the Prosperity Promotions Lady Tiger MLK Classic on their way to a 64-50 non-conference win.
Urbana got on the board at 4:32 with an Addi Hegyi 3-pointer for their first score of the day and Lady Hilclimbers’ 5’10” senior Peyton Mounce hit a triple at the buzzer to close out first quarter scoring with Versailles leading 19-8 led by eight Sarah Stammen points.

The Lady Tigers struggled in second-quarter play, getting their first score at 4:28 on a Katey Litten basket. Urbana put nine points on the board while Versailles added six points, sending the teams to the break with the Lady Tigers up 25-17.
Urbana battled back in the third period, closing to within a single point at 29-28 with 4:55 on the clock before Versailles used a 9-0 run to push its lead to a double-digit 38-28 advantage at 2:35. The Lady Tigers took the third by a by a 19-16 score with Katey Litten accounting for seven points including a three, and Stammen and Taylor Wagner each with six points giving Versailles a 44-33 advantage after three complete.

“We let them go on a little bit of a run, but we were able to keep the lead throughout the whole game, which was nice,” Coach White said.
The fourth period went to Versailles 20-17, giving the Lady Tigers a 14-point Monday MLK Classic victory, their sixth consecutive win.

“The few spurts they went on, we were able to get stops, get our momentum back, and go on some offensive spurts ourselves,” said White. “We played a solid defensive game.”
Urbana’s Peyton Mounce led all scorers with a game-high 23 points and logged her 1000th career Lady Hillclimbers rebound, bringing the game to a halt to recognize her achievement.
Versailles got balanced scoring with four Lady Tigers in double figures led by 18 Taylor Wagner points and named the game’s MVP: Stammen 16, Litten 14, and Grace Osborne 10. Kynnedi Hager added six Lady Tigers’ points.

“Taylor is flat-out working her tail off,” White noted. “She works her tail off in practice and communicates so well to her teammates. It’s nice to see her get that award. She played a solid four quarters.”
