VERSAILLES – The Versailles football team could not get their offense going in the first half and fell behind Anna 13-0 at the half. The Tigers had a goal-line stand, stopping the Rockets at the one-yard line on their first possession. The VERSAILLES fumbled at their eight-yard line, and the Rockets capitalized with a five-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead.

Versailles moved the ball before mistakes would sabotage their drives. The Tigers had 10 penalties for 68 yards.

“We couldn’t run or pass effectively when we had opportunities; we either dropped it, or it was a bad pass or missed a block, or we fumbled it or had a penalty that killed the drive. Just one thing after another that killed us.” Coach Ryan Jones said, “I thought the defense played well, both those touchdowns they scored in the first half came off of offensive mistakes.”

The Tigers had a huge miscue late in the first half. The Rockets picked up a fumble and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was missed, but the Rockets were up 13-0 going into the half.

The Versailles Tigers came out in the second half and scored with 7:25 left in the third quarter. Landyn Knapke went 31 yards to cut the lead to 13-7, but they could not get anything else to go their way, and that was the story of the game.

The Tigers travel to Minster this Friday to take on the 6-1 Wildcats.
