ANSONIA – The Versailles Lady Tigers defeated the Ansonia Lady Tigers 5-4 in non-conference softball play between the neighboring Darke County Schools.

“It was a good game all the way around,” said Versailles coach, Mark Voisard. “Coach Jenkins has a good team. I thought we battled well today.”

“Versailles is a good ball club,” said Ansonia coach, Floyd Jenkins. “We have a good schedule, this is why we put them on here. We want to play tougher teams and we can play with them.”
Versailles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second-inning with Ansonia plating 2-runs in the bottom of the second to lead 2-1 after two complete. The teams played scoreless ball in innings and three with Versailles coming to the plate in the top of the fifth putting 3-runs on the board to lead 4-2.

Ansonia battled back with 2-runs in the bottom of the fifth-inning sending the game to the sixth with the score tied 4-4.
Neither team dented the board in the sixth before the Versailles Lady Tigers plated a run in the top of the seventh to the one run win.

“The girls showed fight the whole game, they didn’t give up and that is what I am liking,” said Coach Voisard, “They’re fighting back, not giving up when they lose the lead, they get the lead, they lose the lead, get it back and then finish the game out is the big thing for them.”
“It was a very good game, both pitchers pitched good,” Coach Jenkins noted. “Kept battling back, they made mistakes, we made mistakes but neither team gave up. Both teams got behind, they came back, went ahead, very good game to play in.”

Colleen Hiestand went the distance on the mound for Versailles to earn the win. Abby Kramer went the distance for Ansonia allowing just 1-earned run over seven-innings.
Ansonia committed 3-errors on the night while Versailles ended the game with 2-errors.
