Strong third quarter lifts Wapahai over Union City Lady Indians

Union City Lady Indians and Wapahani battle for rebound in non-conference matchup.

UNION CITY, IN. – The Union City Lady Indians dropped a 38-58 non-conference game to the visiting Wapahani Lady Raiders varsity basketball team.

The Lady Indians fought hard against the Delaware, IN school until the final buzzer.

Wapahani took the opening quarter 11-7 and quarter No. 2 by an 15-11 score sending the teams to the break with the visitors holding an 8-point 26-18 point advantage.

A Lady Indians third quarter dry spell and a strong Lady Raiders third had Wapahani taking the period 23-11 to lead 49-29 with one quarter to play.

The teams played to a 9-9 fourth quarter giving Wapahani a 20-point win.

The Lady Indians were led by Fischer’s double double with 14-points and 11-rebounds. Black added 8-points and Evans 6-points. Reichard had 6-deflections, 3-steals and 7-assists for Union City.

The Union City JV also lost their matchup with the Lady Raiders. Kerns accounted for 5-points and 9-rebounds, Evans had 3-points, 4-rebounds and 2-steals, Banda hit for 5-points and 4-rebounds.

The 8-13 Lady Indians will play cross town rival Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks at MV on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. JV start time.
