Win over Randolph Southern puts Union City Lady Indians in County Tournament championship game

UNION CITY, IN – The Union City Lady Indians defeated the Randolph Southern Lady Rebels 38-31 in County Tournament action. The Lady Indians kept their composure and fought to the very end to stave off any attempt at a Rebel run.

Union City took an 8-5 lead after one period of play with Audrey Black knocking down two baskets including and old fashioned 3-point play and Oaklee Reichard drained a trey to round out scoring.

The Lady Rebels were three times better on the second quarter board outscoring Union City 9-3 sending the teams to the break with Randolph Southern leading 14-11.

Period No. 3 saw Union City regain the lead with an 11-6 third led by 9 Reichard points and a basket from Camryn Fischer.

Union City opened fourth quarter play with a slim 22-20 advantage setting the stage for Black to score 6-points, Reichard 5-points including her second triple of the game, Gabby Ordonez 3-points at the charity stripe and Fischer going 2-2 at the line to give the Lady Indians a 7-point victory.

The Lady Indians got strong defensive play from Emily Evans, Ordonez and Black getting multiple stops while forcing turnovers on the Lady Rebels.

With the win Union City improves to 8-10 on the season.
