GASTON, Ind. – The Union City Lady Indians defeated the Daleville Broncos 51-32 on Saturday to be named IHSAA Class 1A Regional Champions for just the third time in school history. UC came out and got a quick lead and never looked back.
“The girls were prepared and executed exactly as they needed to. We were very careful to make sure we did not take Daleville lightly, they were coming off a sectional win for the first time in a long time and under the direction of a new coach. We knew they would be playing with a purpose and they were better than their record indicated. The girls put the throttle down from the start and never looked back,” said UC Head Coach Sarah Black.
They were led by Reichard with 16 points, 5 steals and 4 assists. Black added 11 and Lulu had 10. Fischer pulled down 13 rebounds for the Indians.
“Moving forward we have to maintain the focus and execution in every game we get the opportunity to play. We will be facing the #2 ranked team in the state, Clinton Central, in the first game of the Semi-State. We actually had the opportunity to play them in our holiday tournament so we are somewhat familiar with who they are and what they do which provides a sense of comfort in a way,” Black added.
“We are very blessed to still be playing and I know the girls will continue to work and do everything they can to continue playing, they have proved their dedication and commitment,” she concluded.
The Lady Indians (14-12) will play in the Semi-State Game #1 on Saturday, February 17 in Frankfort, Ind. against Clinton Central (24-1).
