COLUMBUS – The Tri-Village Competitive Cheer teams attended the OASSA State Cheer Competition at Big Walnut High School on Sunday, February 22nd. Not only did the team finish State-Runner-up in the “Game Day” Category they also placed 3rd in Traditional Cheer as well.
“We came up just short to Barnesville in Game Day, who had recently won a national championship and is a very strong and well-known team,” Tri-Village cheer coach Kara Wilson said.
“While we knew winning was going to be difficult, our goal this year wasn’t defined by first place—— it was about being as competitive as possible and performing at our absolute best,” Wilson added.
And the Patriots can be proud knowing they did just that.
“Getting second to a team of that caliber felt like a “win” for us,” Wilson exclaimed.
The Patriots season has been very competitive with many tough moments, but coach Wilson praised the girls for trusting the process.
“They trusted me as their coach and gave their absolute best. This was by far our strongest performance of the year, full of hard work, heart, and determination,” Wilson stated.
Kara also thanked Danielle Bourne for coming on as her assistant this year.
“She’s been my right hand and my go-to and has lots of experience to share over the years with the team,” Kara said.
Kara also gave a big thank you to the parents who have supported the team through late nights, early mornings, and every step along the way.
“We truly have the best girls, they have worked tirelessly since July, and I couldn’t be prouder,” coach Wilson complimented.
The Patriots graduate two seniors: a cheerleader and a mascot both going out on a high note.
“We have two incredible leaders this year: Haidyn Rothwell, who has been with the program since 3rd grade and has become an amazing leader, and Chris Brinley, our mascot “Pat the Patriot,” whose energy and personality are unmatched,” Kara Wilson praised.
Not only did Tri-Village compete at the state meet, but they were also joined by other fellow WOAC Schools.
“It was great to see the WOAC so well represented at the state level, with National Trail, Twin Valley South, Arcanum, and Preble Shawnee all competing. It speaks to the strength and growth of cheerleading within our conference. We’re excited to continue pushing toward the ultimate goal next season, and I couldn’t be prouder of this group of athletes,” Wilson concluded.
