DARKE COUNTY – The Darke County Solid Waste District will host a Used Tire Collection Day on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Rumpke Transfer Station, 5474 Jaysville-St. John Rd., Greenville.
Improperly stored tires pose both environmental and public health risks. Rainwater trapped in discarded tires creates ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes capable of transmitting diseases like West Nile Virus and Encephalitis. Proper disposal reduces mosquito populations and helps eliminate illegal dumping across local ditches and fields.
Registration Requirements
Pre-registration is required to participate. Registration will be held September 2 through September 18, 2026, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Darke County Solid Waste District office (684 Wagner Ave, Suite C, Greenville). Please note: The office will be closed on Monday, September 7, for Labor Day.
Participants must present a valid state ID and sign a residence waiver. Junkyards, auto repair shops, dealerships, and commercial businesses are prohibited from participating.
Fees and Guidelines
-Passenger Tires: $2.00 per tire (Limit 10 per resident/address).
-Semi/Truck Tires: $8.00 per tire.
-Tractor Tires: $20.00 per tire (Maximum 30" width).
-Payment: Cash (exact change required) or check only at time of registration. Credit cards are not accepted.
Preparation and Safety Rules
-All tires must be off the rim and free of dirt and water. Heavy debris or wet loads will be refused.
-Per Ohio Revised Code, all loads must be fully secured and tarped during transport unless in an enclosed vehicle or trailer.
-Per Ohio EPA regulations, transporting more than 10 tires requires a transporter permit or a waiver letter from the Darke County Health Department.
This event is coordinated with support from Community Service workers, the Darke County Health Department, the Darke County Engineer, the Darke County Highway Garage, Rumpke, and local volunteers.
