Thomas A. Funderburg, age 86, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, in Greenville after a short-term illness.
Thomas was born on June 22, 1940, in Yellow Springs, Ohio to the late Edwin and Edythe (Lightle) Funderburg. He lived in Greenville for more than seventy years.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Funderburg.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Glenna (Hoagland) Funderburg, whom he married on June 5, 1965; his children, John (Kelly) Funderburg of Amherst, Ohio, and Donna (Mark) Malott of Greenville, Ohio; his grandchildren, Sarah (Taylor) Fly, Alex (Jessica) Funderburg, Meredith Funderburg, Eric Houdeshell, and Candice Malott; and his great-grandchildren, Brooks, Blake, Amelia, Zach, and Oliver.
Tom attended the Kennedy School for the Deaf, where he met his future wife, Glenna. They shared a lifelong marriage and raised two children, John and Donna. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1960 and later earned a degree from ITT Technical Institute, where he trained as a draftsman. Thomas worked for many years as a draftsman at American Aggregates Corporation in Greenville. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville and the Dayton Deaf Club.
Tom was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, boating, and canoeing. He was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker who built many beautiful pieces of furniture that remain treasured in his family’s homes and his cabin in Northern Michigan. Tom also loved dreaming and planning new adventures and spending time with his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenville Union Cemetery. Family and friends may visit starting at 9:00 a.m.
