This is definitely my favorite time of year, football season is upon us! While football is my favorite sport, I also enjoy golf, High School sports, and occasionally look in on other sports that are going on. I must admit that I only scan other sports, but I see enough to make sure I know what is going on. One of my recent look-ins that has my attention is the WNBA, and it is not for a good reason!
Is anyone else watching much of the WNBA? I don’t watch it much because it is unwatchable! I have never seen basketball like this. Oh, I have no problem with the talent of the ladies; some of them are really good, but it’s the administration that is horrible. After watching a few times, I am convinced of two things: the officiating is absolutely horrible, and two, I believe it is because the league wants it that way.
I have never seen a league try so hard to ruin itself, it isn’t basketball, it’s more like rugby! This happens in every game, and I do not believe the officials are this stupid or blind! It must be a league directive. The league loses 40-50 million dollars a year, and I just wonder how long the NBA is going to keep dumping money into a product that is killing itself? What do you think?
It’s NFL time, finally, and everyone in this area is either a Browns fan or a Bengals fan. After watching the first preseason game and listening to “experts,” It seems like the Browns will be better, but not much, and the Bengals need defense, again. The Bengals might have the best offense in the league, but they will have to score 35 to win every week, according to experts. We will see, but I believe the Browns will start Shedeur Sanders because they really don’t have anyone else! I think the Bengals’ defense will be better, but that depends on injuries. It’s gonna be a fun year… mainly because I am a Vikings fan mostly! (I also like the Rams, Cardinals, and Eagles… they all have neat helmets!)
Greenville High School has an important scrimmage this Thursday against Tri-Village in the new Alumni field. It is really nice, you should go see it! The question, though, is whether Greenville is going to improve upon the last several years? Any win will be an improvement for sure. I just want to see some real effort out of the players. I think they have some really good senior leadership, and the coaching staff is the best in years, but do they have the determination and drive to succeed? I think they do……this will be a really decisive year for the program, and Coach Channell has a job to do…..and I think we will see some improvement! Good Luck to all of you!
The Greenville golf teams are in full swing, and they are fun to watch. Some of these young ladies and men can really smack the ball! Both teams will improve through the season. Coach Stickel and Coach Haines do a great job, and they will make sure they get better every week. Go watch them sometime, they are really entertaining!
Anybody else watch NASCAR anymore? I do, but it is getting boring. They need to get rid of their championship points deal and go back to the old way, where winning is more important. Sometimes, change is not a good thing!
The Fair starts this Friday, and the Cheerleading competition always draws a crowd. These people work very hard, just like band members, but they get little credit. I, for one, appreciate the hard work they put in to entertain us, and if you get the chance, tell them they are appreciated, they deserve our respect.
Fall is just around the corner, and fall sports of all kinds are soon in full swing. Let’s support our local teams and wish them all a great year!
